Many, many people have a connection to Hawaii.
Some of us went to school —or have friends and family—on island. Others may have no direct connection, but have lived through other natural disasters and can feel the pain (we see you, California and NOLA).
All of these events are terrible. But what’s happened on Maui, an island already under pressure for resources and housing, is particularly devastating.
Which is why we all need to act.
